TOOLS

Most Web pages are written in HTML (Hyper Text Mark-up Language). With a simple text editor like Notepad or with a Word Processing Program, such as Microsoft Word you can write your web pages from scratch if you are willing to learn HTML code.

There are also many software programs available which can help you design your own webpages without learning the code itself. Such programs are called WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get) programs. You can create a web site if you know how to use a Word Processer.

Once the pages are designed and created you will need a program (FTP) that will upload these files to your host. Some hosts will offer you easy wizards to do that, even automate uploads for you.

FTP Programs

FTP is a way to login to another Internet site for the purposes of retrieving and/or sending files.

In order to move the files which you created on your computer to your host company's server (so that the rest of the world can see your files too, when they type in your Internet Adress) you need a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Program.
Check also with your host company if they offer the possibility of uploading your files via an online controlpanel.

Examples of FTP Program:

  • IPswitch (very intuitive. Two panels show you exactly the hierarchy of files on your PC and the host server)
