I was able to buy a compatible camera through Amazon.com (QuickCam Pro 5000) for a little more than U$60. It was really worth the investment.
The video effect software is the one that makes this camera stand out for me as a foreign langauge teacher. It gives me the opportunity to use an "Avatar", a cartoon character as the image instead of the student. You can choose from many different characters, such as a princess, an ape, a dinosaur, a car, a shark, and many more. There are also new characters and accessories being added to the collection to download for free.
Once the student is represented as an avatar you could have them read, sing, tell a story and make taped video clips available for download on a website or blog, without having to worry about security issues.
In addition to the avatar characters there are also accessories available. Once that could my eye especially was the "Hockey Mask" that can show different countries' flags.
