STEP ONE: Gather some information about Easter Island .

| STEP TWO: Researching |
| Read through the Resource section and find out what different people think about the origin and purpose of the big statues (moai) on Easter Island . |

| STEP THREE: Analyzing |
| Decide for yourself which theory you believe or come up with your own theory. This must be supported by the web sites you read. |

| STEP FOUR: Compiling |
| Write a one paragraph, at least 5 sentences, explaining your theory. |

| STEP FIVE: Creative Art |
| Decide whether you will be creating a drawing or writing a poem about Easter Island . |
If you are drawing, make sure you
- Study an actual photograph of the statue.
- Use an 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper.
- Must be hand drawn
- You are to use colored pencil, markers or watercolors
- Leave no white areas on paper

If you are writing a poem :
- Must include a title
- Must be at least 5 lines
- Must be printed (computer) on 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper.
- A decorative border must be inserted around the text of poem.
- Microsoft Word
- Click on Format
- Click on Borders and Shading
- Choose Style and Color
- Can be in English, Spanish or mixed
- Use words such as:
- Mystery
- Easter Island
- Pacific Ocean
- Statues
- Chile
- Moai

STEP SIX: Publishing
