DESCRIPTION:

More and more people are uploading their video clips to share with the world to the web. While obviously there is a lot of "junk" out there, there are also some valuable video clips that can be incorporated into your lessons.

I have shown video clips from:

to enhance the cultural studies in my Spanish class. One of my students' favorite clip though is the Berlitz Commercial of a German coast guard with a message about the importance of learning a foreign language.

There are many services (most of them for free) popping up online that allow you to search for and upload your own videos.


MATERIALS NEEDED:
  • Digital camera with video capabilities or camcorder
  • Windows Movie Maker (Windows) or iMovie(Mac)
  • Internet Connection

  1. SEARCH
    Go to one of the services mentioned above and search for videos that would visually enhance your cultural lesson about a country and/or language you are studying.
  2. CREATE
    A second option would be to create your own video clips when traveling abroad or when your are immersed in a target language situation.

    2. Download the video clip from your camera to your computer
    3. Import the video file into a program such as Windows Moviemaker (PC)or iMovie (Mac). They come free with your computer.
    4. Edit the movie, by adding title, music, clipping, muting backround noise, etc.
    5. Save your movie
    6. Upload the movie via youtube.com
  3. INCORPORATE
    Once you have found or created a video clip you would like to incorporate, copy the link to show during a lesson or embed them into your classroom webpage or blog.
