Chinchilla: Are you Pachamama?
October 9th, 2008 by jose

The crystal skull told us that Pachamama is here in this sacred place of Machu Picchu, but where???? Could it not have been a little bit more specific. Thank goodness I spotted a Chinchilla. Could it be Pachamama? It does look very cute.
Chinchilla, are you Pachamama?
No, Jose, just look around you. You will see Pachamama!

Pre K thinks MAYBE Pachamama isn’t a “person” or an “animal” but MAYBE a “place”….like the “Lost City?”
5th Grade Science Class:
Extreme Fact about Chinchillas from one our Extreme Pet Books:
“For centuries, the chinchilla was the “it” pet for prince and princesses…every royal kid had to have one..they used the fur for collars of their coats as well….by the early 1900′s the Chilean government passes laws to stop chinchilla killing and save the animal from extinction…In 1918, a Californian introduced the Chinchilla as pets and began to breed them.”
More Extreme Facts About Chinchillas:
Body: 9 – 15 inches long
Tail: 3-6 inches long
Weight: 18 – 28 ounces
Lifespan: 15 – 20 years, in captivity; 8 – 10 years in the wild.
One of the “softest” animals in the world…apparently most people are not allergic to chinchillas.
Chinchillas can shoot six feet into the air to escape from predators.
They can also loose wads of hair when attacked by a predator. This action can help the chinchilla escape,, leaving its predator with a mouth full of hair!
Fleas and other parasites give up with chinchillas…their hair is so thick. Chinchillas have 60 hairs per follicle; humans have one hair per follicle!
Chinchillas in the wild have always bathed in dust, so it is suggested to create a “dust-bath” for your chinchilla every few days. Put some fine sand in a bowl and let your chinchilla go into the bowl. He will thrash around in the dust to clean its fur!
