Hospice San Gabriel
October 1st, 2008 by jose
Through the Acosta-Rua foundation, we were put in contact with a children’s hospice in San Jose, Albergue San Gabriel. This hospice caters to terminally ill children and their families. It provides medical and emotional support for families who otherewise would not have a place to turn to.

We left a cousin of our Jose with Mrs. Laura to help establish a possible connection between our school and the hospice. Walking through the San Gabriel, we could just feel the care, love and devotion everybody that works and supports this mission.

We are in a 6th grade science class right now…Mrs. Pickering’s class! We are so happy that you are their, sharing our love, with the children of the hospice and all of their caretakers. Their work is amazing and a blessing…and we look forward to continuing to help in some way.
“Did they like the supplies? or Jose the Bear?”
“Were they excited to see you?”
“Did you see any children?”
“Do they have any animals that visit the children..like maybe horses or other pets?”
Questions above from 6th grade students
I worked with hospice here in Jacksonville for many years, and it’s great to see an active place in Costa Rica for sick children and their families. I’m sure your leaving Jose there will bring lots of joy to the little ones. Our fruit of the spirit is kindness this week; you and Jose really showed kindness when he agreed to stay in San Gabriel while you traveled. I’m sure Jose knows that St. Gabriel is an archangel, and has a special place next to God in heaven.
Pre K thought that was so nice of Jose to leave a cousin with Ms. Laura. We will be sure to keep all of the sick children in our thoughts and prayers.
Did you see any children while you were there? What ages are the children who come there (are there babies)? The children are in our prayers.
Mrs. Weaver´s class:
We did see a girl there and she was very sick. We need to keep praying for the work that Ms. Laura and the staff at the hospice do every day.
Mrs. Inclan:
We do not know if animals or pets visit the hospice, but they did appreciate the supplies that we left. Samantha, we left the jewelry you made, and it will be appreciated by the teenagers that come to the hospice.
Our class is concerned for the sick children. We would like to do something special for them to cheer them up. Could we possibly write letters or make pictures for them? We hope they feel better.
We felt very sad too, and we would like to do something for them as well. Brainstorm with your students and we will talk about it when we get back.
