Cerro Tronador & Glaciar

We had another nice excursion on Tuesday, our last day in Bariloche. We drove all the way to the base of the Cerro Tronador and were able to play in the snow for a little while. El Cerro Tronador is named after the “thunder” noise it makes when ice breaks off. THe cerro is over 3000 meters high. We also saw the Black Glacier, which was very impressive to me. Our tour guide was telling us that this glacier is rapidly dissapearing, because of global warming. They are afraid that the glacier will be gone within the next 30 years.

Circuito Chico & Cerro Catedral

Yesterday we had a long day of excursions. We took the ¨Circuito Chico¨ route in the morning, visited a ¨Hagebutten Factory, took a chair lift up to an amazing view, and saw the incredible hotel Llao Llao.
LLao LLao

In the afternoon we wre driven to Cerro Catedral, where we rented some skis and took the gondola up to about 2000 m. High enough to finally be in the snow. All our ski abilities were quiet ¨rusty¨ but an amazing experience being in the Cordilleras de los Andes in the snow.

On the way back to town we visited a small chocolate factory, which Bariloche is famous for.
Today we cancelled our tours, since Sabrina isn´t feeling well and we´ll rest. Tomorrow another excursion is planned to ¨El Cerro Tronador and Ventisquero Negro¨ which is a Glacier.

Bariloche, Patagonia

After 19 hours of riding in a bus, we arrived in San Carlos de Bariloche.

Although the weather is foggy and rainy in town, there is snow on the mountains. We can{t wait to be in the snow. Hopefully I will find an internet cafe that will allow me to upload my pictures from the camera.

Nahuel Huapi & Soccer Victory

Since we had the afternoon to get to know San Carlos de Bariloche better, we took a little walk downtown and along the lake Nahuel Huapi. This lake is fed by glaciers and is about 400 meters deep !

Argentina was playing Mexico in Leipzig, Germany. The entire town of Bariloche was a ghost town until they finally won 2:1 in overtime. Thousands of people poured into the streets and plazas to celebrate. Cars were honking their horns for hours. People draped in Argentinean flags, with blue-white-blue paint on their faces, jumping up and down chanting: A R G E N T I N A . I took some video clips and will upload when possible.

Next game will be against Germany !! That will be a special game.
